Youth Advisory Board
St Vincent's Youth Advisory Board
What is the Youth Advisory Board?
In 2019, the Senior Leadership Team and CEO of St Vincent’s Health Network Sydney (SVHNS) endorsed the establishment of St Vincent’s Health Network Youth Advisory Board.
This youth led initiative is intended to give younger staff members the opportunity to share their experiences, insights and ideas directly with the CEO and Senior Leadership Team (SLT).
Members of the Youth Advisory Board will meet regularly, and work collaboratively to address organisational priorities or challenges. The group will act as an idea incubator to generate innovative solutions, with the aim of challenging traditional approaches and ways of thinking.
The financial year of 2024 term of the Youth Advisory Board commenced in July 2023. The next term with a new membership will commence in July 2024.
What does the Youth Advisory Board look like?
This group brings together a variety of perspectives from across the Network. Individuals will be between the ages of 18-35 years old, and comes from different professional backgrounds including clinical and non-clinical roles.
The Board will explore a variety of topics which are of interest to members and the leadership team. These may include:
- Environmental action and sustainability;
- Workplace culture and wellbeing;
- Innovation and technology;
- Social responsibility, social impact and mission;
- Diversity and inclusion; and
- Consumer or person oriented care delivery.
Board members are appointed initially, for a one year term. Regular meetings will be held at least monthly during the course of the year. During these meetings, facilitation and scribe roles will be rotated to allow multiple members the opportunity to lead discussions and capture ideas.
Members of the group have the opportunity to present meeting outputs and recommended initiatives to project sponsors including the SVHN SLT and CEO.
Board members also have the opportunity to provide input on consultation sessions which make an impact in shaping the future of our health service.
What is expected of Board members?
All Board members are expected to attend Board meetings on a regular basis. Attendance can be face to face (on Darlinghurst campus) or by video conference from other sites.
Board meeting times will be scheduled around availability of members. For shift workers, meetings will be scheduled to align with rosters where possible. However, it should be noted for some staff participation will be in addition to regular working hours.
A small amount of preparation, investigative work or write-up work may be conducted by Board members between meetings. Despite this, Board commitments are not expected to conflict with existing roles or responsibilities.
