St Vincent’s Launches Diabetes in Youth Clinic
02 Mar 2022
In 2021 the St Vincent’s Diabetes Service launched a new clinic, aimed specifically at younger people.
“Our goal is to support young people with diabetes, knowing that the transition years between paediatric and adult care can be the hardest”, said Dr Jen Snaith, St Vincent’s Endocrinologist.
The new service boasts a multidisciplinary team - a one-stop shop in diabetes care, a feature that makes this clinic unlike traditional diabetes services.
“Our team includes a diabetes educator, dietitian and exercise physiologist plus endocrinologist. We're unique in that sense in that we have the full house of support people”, Dr Jen explains.
This means that patients are able to have all their needs met in one setting each time they visit, providing an opportunity to connect with their full service diabetes team - ultimately enabling young people to take better control of their own health and diabetes care.
Aimed towards people aged 16-25 years with Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes, the clinic is open Tuesdays from 2.30-6pm with either telehealth or face-to-face sessions on offer, making it convenient for patients to attend after school or work.
