Dr Roy navigated the surgery from his desk here in Darlinghurst, while Dr John Tan, Cardiologist carried out the procedure in Perth. Wearing smart glasses that project images of the patients anatomy, Dr Roy was able to see exactly what the Perth based surgeon could see, allowing him to provide real time expert navigation and placement supervision, from the other side of the country. "The last 12 months has accelerated the modernisation of medical education and training. Teaching new techniques became very difficult during COVID, as it previously required travel to the hospital to be on-site during the case. This amazing technology allows for teaching from a remote location, with perfect vision of the procedure and the Cath Lab environment", Dr Roy said.
