Open Dialogue is a resource-oriented approach to mental health, which aims at mobilising psychosocial resources in a crisis-struck person’s social network. It operates on the basis of core humanistic values of openness, social inclusion, and personal autonomy and genuine user and family involvement in the decision-making processes. Open Dialogue includes a particular dialogical approach to psychotherapy and an emphasis on organising responsive and seamless healthcare pathways.
We are presenting a five-day Open Dialogue Training Seminar where Australian expert trainers will present core theoretical principles and teach Open Dialogue psychotherapeutic skills through hands-on training exercises.
Carl Gray is a Senior Social Worker & Family Therapist. He provides mental health intervention to children, families, and care networks, and supervision for the St Vincent’s Open Dialogue Initiative.
Judith Brown is a social worker and family therapist in child and adolescent mental health. Since initial Open Dialogue training in 2010, the approach has informed her clinical work, supervision, training, and PhD research.
Kristof Mikes-Liu is a community-based child and adolescent psychiatrist and family therapist with interests in adapting dialogical practice to mental health contexts, and in teaching and supervision.
Niels Buus is professor of mental health nursing at Sydney University. He teaches and researches Open Dialogue and leads the St. Vincent’s Open Dialogue Initiative.
