Gorman House non-medical residential detoxification unit
Gorman House is a 20-bed non-medical residential detoxification unit, which serves those with a dependency on alcohol and/or other drugs. The primary function of the unit is to provide a safe, therapeutic and comfortable environment for client withdrawal from mood-altering substances, including alcohol, heroin, amphetamines and cocaine. Gorman House currently operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
A non-medical unit, Gorman House clients may be prescribed medication to assist with the physiological and psychological symptoms of withdrawal, however these medications are prescribed outside the Unit. Individuals are encouraged to see their GPs for withdrawal management medications. Gorman House staff assist and educate residents to self-administer their own medications.
Gorman House has a Harm Minimisation perspective that is inclusive and ensures that people receive care appropriate to their complex health and social needs.
