Nursing Research Institute

The Nursing Research Institute (NRI) is a collaboration between Australian Catholic University (ACU), St Vincent’s Health Network Sydney and St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne. The NRI is one of Australia’s largest and most productive nursing research collaboratives with a national and international reputation for conducting rigorous multidisciplinary clinical and health services research focused on improving patient outcomes and health systems.

The NRI brings together researchers and clinicians to conduct clinically relevant research. The NRI specialises in implementation science research examining ways to promote evidence translation in the areas of stroke management, hospital-acquired complications, and de-implementation of low-value nursing care.

Our Mission

• Conduct high-quality, multidisciplinary health research focused on improving patient outcomes and research translation.

• Advise, collaborate and consult on health services and translational research with clinicians, the health industry, government and consumers.
• Create and sustain a collegiate, supportive and high-performance research culture attractive to the best researchers and research students.

The NRI offers both postgraduate students and St Vincent’s clinicians’ opportunities to participate in our research programs. NRI researchers have been awarded approximately $99 million in grants and awards and have published over 275 peer-reviewed journal articles. 

We are located on two campuses: St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney and St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne. We hold a series of research seminars at both campuses which are open to all clinicians. Click here to see the list of the seminars for this year. 

We are proudly supported by the St Vincent’s Curran Foundation and work collaboratively with our other partners from St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney. We also partner with multidisciplinary clinicians, policy makers, non-government organisations and other academic institutions.
