Dementia Advisory Service

St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney provides a Dementia Advisory Service (DAS) to the Eastern area. The service works closely with the Dementia staff at both St Vincent’s and Prince of Wales Community Health Services, along with Service Providers who conduct Dementia-specific Service Provision.

Our role is to promote awareness of dementia, provide information, education, and support, and to contribute to the network of Dementia Services.

The Dementia Advisory Service (DAS) was implemented to work with Service Providers within the Eastern Sydney Area including the following areas:

• Botany
• City of Sydney
• Randwick
• Waverley
• Woollahra

Our Services

• Promote local community awareness of dementia, available services and encourage early referral for investigation of memory loss
• Provide information to people with dementia and their carers at key stages of the disorder
• Indirectly support local dementia carer support groups
• Promote dementia education and training opportunities to HACC services
• Create awareness of the special needs of younger people with dementia and facilitate the development of appropriate local service models
• Work closely with allied health and other community-based service providers in providing a comprehensive service for people with dementia, and carers
• Assist local dementia taskforces and service providers to identify local needs and to develop local implementation plans
• Promote dementia awareness information and resources to service users and to other services
• Identifying local gaps
• Support the development of local plans to improve services
• Provide support to local networks of dementia services and devising culturally appropriate strategies to improve service delivery to people from different cultural, linguistic and indigenous backgrounds
